The 2016 Home Tour, “Firewise Homes: Fire-adapted Building and Landscaping” looks at valley homes from a more practical, rather than purely aesthetic, standpoint.

How can smart design, layout and construction choices make our homes more resilient in fire country?

Each summer, Confluence Gallery and Art Center hosts the Methow Valley Home Tour, an exclusive peek inside some of the valley’s most beautiful homes, and an opportunity to learn about design, architecture and innovative construction.

Firewise living is more than just defensible space around your home. Designing a home to be Firewise includes considerations such as good access to your property, a home that is shielded from ember intrusion and living in harmony with the natural environment. The homes featured on this year’s tour highlight best practices of Firewise living.

Living with Fire: Your Role in a Fire Adapted Methow Valley

Friday, August 5th 7-9pm at Confluence Gallery

The Methow Valley is a magnificent place that we all treasure. It is also a place where wildland fire is a fact of life and a key part of this ecosystem. The flora and fauna of the Methow are adapted to fire, and there is a lot that we humans can do to be fire adapted too. This dynamic presentation by Kirsten Cook of the Okanogan Conservation District will introduce you to the key knowledge, skills, and tools to be ready for wildfire. Whether it’s your home, business, or neighborhood, you have an important role to play in making our community more resilient.
