In a spectacular display of generosity, descendants of the late Drs. Gerald and Virginia Sparling have agreed to donate the bulk of their family's art collection for the joint benefit of the Confluence Gallery and the Methow Valley Chamber Music Festival.
"This is a wonderful collection gathered over a lifetime," said Confluence Gallery board member Mary Lou McCollum. "The Sparlings appreciated living with original art. Their art is now being shared with collectors both in our valley and beyond, keeping the memory of Jerry and Virginia alive for a long time to come."
Festival executive director Liz Johnson said, "I'm blown away by the size and quality of this gift. Construction is underway now on the Festival grounds to provide a suitable gallery to display this beautiful collection."
The art will be sold in silent-auction format during the upcoming summer Festival, July 28–August 6, 2016. That period coincides with the Confluence exhibit, "Music as Muse", which will explore how music works as creative inspiration for artists.

These works were collected over a lifetime by the late Drs.
Gerald and Virginia Sparling, pillars of our local arts community. The Sparling
family has generously donated the bulk of their collection for the joint
benefit of the Methow Valley Chamber Music Festival and the Confluence Gallery,
who will display the works for sale July 28 – August 6 on the Festival grounds.
This sale respects the family’s wishes that the art itself
remain connected to the local community and the proceeds be used for the
benefit of local arts organizations.
The collection will be open to the public for viewing and
bidding each concert day during open rehearsals starting at 9am, and open to
ticket-holders prior to the evening concerts beginning at 6pm.
