Announcing Confluence Gallery Artist in Residence Bryan Putnam!

Confluence Gallery is pleased to announce
Bryan Putnam as our Spring/Summer Artist in Residence

Bryan will receive three months of studio space on the second floor of the Confluence Gallery from May 1st – July 31st and a solo exhibit in the Gallery gift shop July 23 - Aug 27 2016.

Bryan Putnam spent the last two years teaching art at the University or Oregon, where he received his MFA in printmaking and drawing in 2014.  His courses included Intaglio Printmaking, Intro to Printmaking, Screen print, Advanced Printmaking, Advanced Drawing, and Intermediate Drawing.

During his residency at Confluence Gallery, Bryan intends to create drawings, paintings, and prints made on found paper, wood, and other materials gathered from farms, businesses, and wild spaces in the Methow Valley. These small works will represent characteristic features of the valley – both expected and unexpected. He aims to create 'portraits of place’ inspired from the odd and quirky creative works (yard art or farm art) that pop up across the Methow like native plants. He has been discovering these little bursts of creativity across the landscape and refers to them as 'rural impulse artworks.’

Along with the creation of prints and paintings, Bryan will craft a small series of ‘zine-like artist books in an attempt to document and invigorate a sense of connectedness and place in the Methow Valley. By sharing aspects of eccentricity, beauty, creativity, and wonder of nature, He hopes that his work may invigorate creativity, community, and thoughtfulness in our locality.

Bryan grew up in the Methow Valley and he and his wife decided recently to move home to Twisp. The birth of their little girl and a desire to put roots down in a place that they deeply care about were at the forefront of that decision. Bryan also decided to shift his artistic path from a focus on academia to a focus on full-time studio production. He hopes the Confluence Gallery residency will help him to kick start this goal as well as further connect him with the local community.

Please help us to welcome Bryan to the Confluence Gallery Family of artists!

Look for an announcement of a Comics and Zines workshop coming soon!
