Call for ART: Mythology

A Call To Artists: Mythology

We invite you to contribute to our exhibit “Mythology” at the Confluence Gallery in Twisp, WA.

The show will open on October 10th and will run thru November 13th.

What is myth? There is no one definition since myths serve many different purposes. Originally, the purpose was to explain the inexplicable. Since the beginning of humankind's existence, myths have functioned as rationalizations for the fundamental mysteries of life, questions such as: Who made the world? How will it end? Where do we come from? Who was the first human? What happens when we die? Why does the sun travel across the sky each day? Why does the moon wax and wane? Why do we have annual agricultural cycles and seasonal changes? Who controls our world, and how can we influence those beings so our lives are easier?

Throughout the centuries, myths have provided such compelling stories for art work. An artist's representation provides a concrete mental picture of a myth or mythological character, a legend.

For this exhibit, we are asking artists to respond to "Mythology" through your art, not necessarily depicting one specific time or culture. Yet, with your art submission we ask that you give the mythological reference (as the title of the piece or in your statement).

Number of pieces to submit: up to 3 pieces per artist.

Here are the rules- Each piece must be:
Your own original work.
Available for sale.
Created in the last 3 years.
Never previously been shown in the Methow Valley area.
Any Size
Any Medium
Ready for hanging with appropriate hardware/wire secured to work (works without hanging hardware will not be hung)

Please note the curators have the right to refuse work, even after work is delivered to the gallery, if it does not contribute to the direction, cohesiveness, or available space of the show. We are looking for high quality execution and thoughtful content that contributes to the vision of the show as stated above.
