Summer Artist in Residence Brita Ness!

Confluence Gallery is please to introduce:

Brita Ness

 2015 Summer Artist in Residence!

Brita has been selected to receive three months of studio space at Confluence Gallery and Art Center from June-August and a solo exhibit in the Gallery gift shop during the month of September.

Brita graduates this May from Willamette University with a B.A. in Studio Art. Her Bachelor of Arts thesis project, is currently on display at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art in Salem, OR and explores ideas related to gender and propriety in public spaces.

While primarily a painter, Brita is also well-versed
in printmaking, drawing, digital media, welded steel sculpture, and analog photography. In her final year of school, she says her work has changed "I have found myself adopting a mixed-media approach to my work, and I would value the opportunity to have access to a space where I could continue to develop my identity and style as a multimedia artist."

Brita is a Methow Valley native and Liberty Bell High School graduate. As a young artist "my earliest influence was the late Sean McCabe, and while my practice has grown tremendously since high school, many of his lessons have stayed with me and continue to guide the development of my work."

Brita is eager to discover how returning home and working at the Confluence Gallery might affect her work conceptually and technically. She is excited to create a sense of community at the gallery during her residency, and to forge connections with other artists, curators, and members of the arts community in order to create an engaging and successful exhibition.

Join us in welcoming Brita to the Confluence Gallery community and mark your calendars for her upcoming exhibit reception August 29th in our Gift Shop!
