AFTER SCHOOL ARTS with MARGARET KINGSTON

Below is the October schedule for Margaret Kingston's after school arts program for kids in grades    3-6. Classes can be enrolled in for a week ($35) or 4 weeks ($125). Call Confluence Gallery to sign up or for more information. 997-2787

October 3rd: Introductions, Elements of Art & Principles of Design, Warm up basic art making skills with a fun drawing project called “Crazy Hair”. Group Game.

October 5th: Continue to develop important skills with “Blind Contour Drawing” (Looking only at an object instead of your paper, training an artist’s eye).  Create a pastel masterpiece that appears to be 3D.

October 10th: “Marbleized Paper” - A strange mixture allows paint to sit on top of water so when paint is dripped and swirled magic seems to happen. Placing a paper down onto the design will transfer all the colors onto the paper.  Each person can try this experiment a few different ways!

October 12th: “Sketch Books” - Using one piece of the Marbleized paper for the cover (made on Wednesday) we will bind our own sketchbooks, because all artists need a place to keep their work! Play Pictionary, Group drawing game.
October 17th: “Tile Painting” - it can be your own coaster, hot plate, or decorative art piece for around the house.  Paint it in your own style or find inspiration from a famous artist! Paint
the Primary Colors and mix the Secondary Colors for a “Color Wheel Character” of your own.

October 19th: Create a “Color Wheel Character Collage” using the painted papers from Wednesday and construction paper.
October 24th: “Halloween Props” - Lets see what we can make to go along with your costume! If you have something in mind bring your materials or use our odds and ends of recycled materials, plaster, etc.

October 26th: “Paper Stained Glass Look-a-like” - Tissue paper glows like stained glass when placed in a bright window.  Make it eerie for Halloween or decorative for fall.
