Storytelling - Through the Lens

Every picture tells a story, and everyone has a story to tell. On August 24 & 25, educator and visual storyteller, Lyn McCracken, teaches how to produce a short documentary with still or moving images. It’s a great class for organizations, businesses and individuals with a message to share. Any camera will do, digital, analog and even Polaroid. No experience is necessary, and it’s open to all ages.

Lyn makes connections as she teaches, between the history of photography, technology and science, light and chemistry, and how people see or perceive the world. She is interested in the role of images as catalysts or indicators of social change.

Her personal photographic work is mostly documentary. This workshop is part of her visit to open an exhibit of her current project: Mujeres de la Guerra: Historias de El Salvador (Women of the War: Stories from El Salvador) that is on view at Confluence Gallery from August 23, through Sept 16

Lyn has won awards, grants and commissions for her work and is an active member of the National Society for Photographic Education. She holds a B.F.A. degree from Cornish College of the Arts and M.F.A. from Mills College. Lyn has extensive experience as a visiting lecturer and has taught photography in colleges, high schools, and community centers since the early 1990's. She currently teaches at The Northwest School in Seattle.
