Inside Out, Design Exhibit at the Confluence

Design, it affects our lives nearly every minute of every day. The Inside Out exhibit at Confluence Gallery explores the many ways that thoughtfully designed objects and spaces enhance and enrich our lives. The work of 50 local and regional artists make this rich subject come alive in this summer exhibit which runs from August 3- Sept 21 with an opening reception August 3 from 4-8pm.

The exhibit exists completely within the gallery, but it offers art and ideas for the courtyard, deck and garden too. Inside Out implies reversal, and the curators embrace the limitless vision of valley residents who naturally let the outside in and take their nests outdoors.

We have asked artists to reveal how they use the principals and elements of design, both in words and by showing their finest examples in the exhibit. The curators combine the unique work of 16 different furniture makers with the work of local painters, photographers, sculptors, glass, ceramic and textile artists to create intriguing and inviting habitats.

To expand on ideas about design and the built environment Ray Johnston and Rick Swanson have organized a fascinating presentation and panel discussion taking place on August 17th at 7pm at the Merc Playhouse in Twisp.

At the heart of the exhibit lies the concept that good design enriches our lives and makes the world a better place. A well designed space is beautiful, comfortable and harmonious. It takes into account functionality, artistic composition, rhythm and movement. Objects have their own unique design qualities to consider based on whether they are functional or decorative, on the aesthetics of the setting and how each object relates to another.
