Wood and Wine

December 17
2-5 PM

Meet local artisans who embrace the spirit of the tree in their work. These Methow valley craftsmen are attuned to the nature of wood, and create furniture, bowls and sculpture, both rustic and refined, that harmoniously combine their vision with the unique character of the wood.

Peter Nawrot is one of these craftsmen, and he and his family invite all to celebrate the debut of his finely crafted furniture at Confluence Gallery. Peter salvages whole trees and sometimes experiments with burying them to encourage spalting, the visually appealing black lines formed in some woods. Phil Ager is a master woodturner, and also creates his own spalted wood. Chris Charters is a fantastic carpenter, who makes beautiful custom log furniture. Multi talented artist Cheryl Wrangle carves intricate boxes. Don McIvor is a highly imaginative and precise turner. Richard Wrangle creates sensuous carved furniture. These are a few of the artisans who will be on hand to share their insights about the nature of wood.

To help with the celebrating Lou Nawrot, Peter’s father, will share some of the wine he has collected over the last 30 years. The theme for the wine tasting will be “good value northwest wines”. Lou can delve into the finer points of regional wines with folks interested in the crafting of grapes into wine.
